Poking the Bear

January 17, 2017 by Mike Welker Leave a Comment

When you are a widow or widower, and you’re dating, It truthfully doesn’t matter how “good” you think things are going. There will always be some aspect of your new relationship that becomes amplified quite simply BECAUSE you are a widow/er.  It may be a perceived slight in comparison to how your pror person treated a situation, or it may…

Plastic Guitars

October 4, 2016 by Mike Welker Leave a Comment

Just last week, I wrote about how, for the most part, random triggers are few and far between for me.  Even trying to actively trigger myself has become difficult.  Wouldn’t you know it?  A day after writing that, an event occurred that randomly brought tears to my eyes for missing Megan.   As silly as it may sound, it was a video game that…

Our First Father’s Day

September 10, 2016 by Kaiti Wallace Leave a Comment

For the past month it has been difficult to ignore the father’s day cards that existed on stands in shopping centres almost everywhere I looked. Mentally trying to prepare for the day “it’s just another day, no different from any other”.   When the day arrived I woke with that mindset, it’s just another day. I called my dad to wish him…

Camp Widow Lite

February 29, 2016 by Mike Welker Leave a Comment

It’s been over a year since I attended my first Camp Widow.  In less than two weeks, Sarah and I will be travelling to Tampa again to attend this year’s installment.     I’d be remiss to say that we weren’t incredibly excited.  Not only do we get to see, converse, and connect with widowed friends that we don’t regularly see otherwise,…

Grieving your own Death

November 3, 2015 by Mike Welker Leave a Comment

After such a busy week last week, between the move, and Sarah’s best friend traveling to Ohio, I am finding myself in a calm state, without a ton to write about.  The primary thing starting to creep into my mind though, is that in a little over two weeks, it will have been one year since Megan’s death.   I am constantly being bombarded by…

About A Girl

September 27, 2015 by Sarah Treanor and Mike Welker Leave a Comment

I’m back in Texas this week, after having visited Mike for two weeks. My last day there, we drove up to Niagara Falls to meet up with my sister and her family. It was her first time meeting him and his daughter Shelby, and it was wonderful to see how well he fit in. Again, just like with my friends, he fit into the picture eerily as well as Drew.

Letters to the Future

March 4, 2014 by Kerryl Murray McGlennon Leave a Comment

Last week I had a blown away moment…I’m clearing through my study to try and get it in some semblance of order ready for my university studies to recommence this week.  Since it’s recycling day, I figure I may as well sort through some old paperwork and textbooks and get them out of the house. So I begin to consolidate an accordion file Ian…
