Confessions

Digital clock

Hi Babe, It’s been 166 days, 22 hours, 32 minutes and 16 seconds since you left. The clock ticks on as I write, rendering the time estimate incorrect seconds after I type it. Confession seems warranted since I sometimes cannot remember if I’ve showered— and apparently I made a tribute tile for you but I […]

Traveling in the Land of Grief – Part Two

September 22, 2021 by Kathie Neff Leave a Comment

Images speak louder than words. The concentric layers of trees, in the gorgeous photo above, remind me of grief—its stages and the overall journey that begins when death arrives at our door. It speaks to me of spaces of rest along the journey and the familiar fog of being in an unknown land. Little […]

Love Always Wins

The Power of Memory Do you ever wonder how certain memories come back to teach us about ourselves? The lesson for me in this week’s post is that dying is damn hard. Sometimes, in the midst of it, we don’t feel the full impact. Then your dog dies and it all comes rushing in. Death […]

The Anatomy of a Love Song

Love Begets Love A lifetime of love, like seeds in soil, sprouts and multiplies in the right conditions. When seeds of love sprout—love blooms. Love begets love. This explains how this precious song arrives here today. The home for this song is a website our family created for Dan named CowboyDan.org. A brain-child of our […]

131 Days

August 25, 2021 by Kathie Neff Leave a Comment

To My Dearest Dan, It has been one hundred thirty-one days since you died and it feels so much longer. It feels as if you are watching me from afar and also, somehow, participating daily in my life with your energy. When I call on you I especially feel you near, although you show up […]

Photographs and Memories

Pieces of You Photographs and memories All the love you gave to me Somehow it just can’t be true That’s all I’ve left of you In the midst of meal prep, sorting through items while seeking the right tool in a kitchen drawer, I saw a blackened, overused kitchen fork. It immediately took me to […]

Of Butterflies, Puppies, and the Dan Neff Dog

The surprising journey of widowhood. Part of the widowed journey, as I experience it, is having to face new things. Some new things contain the kind of surprises you don’t want to receive. For example, if your partner always took the dog to vet, then the first vet visit on your own might surprise you […]

Til Death Do Us Part . . . or not

July 7, 2021 by Kathie Neff Leave a Comment

The irony of pledging our lives to one another on Independence Day revealed itself slowly over the years. A powerful love awakened what felt like super powers. Of course we would live a lifetime together, no matter the bets of some who thought otherwise. Dan enjoyed highlighting the benefits of choosing July 4th to marry: […]

Missing our Papa on Father’s Day

June 23, 2021 by Kathie Neff Leave a Comment

What happens on Father’s Day for the family whose Papa has passed on to another dimension? Is there a way to connect from afar? When my dad passed away in 1994 I wondered, with my siblings, how we could live in a world where he was missing. Each child whose father–or special person–has passed on […]

Wandering~

February 12, 2020 by Alison Miller 1 Comment

I wander in and out of this life I live without Chuck.
Literally, of course, as I steer my pink car, towing my pink trailer, down roads and highways and byways,
Through cities and towns and tiny villages…

Big Love

January 15, 2018 by Staci Sulin Leave a Comment

My smile has been gone for a long time.  I wore it effortlessly when Mike was alive.  But, now, my smile feels like an accessory I wear only on special occasions.  I know that it won’t be like this forever because I love life too much to never smile again.  But, for right now, my heart feels empty, And, I see a deficiency of joy in my eyes.
