Widowed Effect on Family/Friends

support.

Posted on: February 10, 2011 | Posted by: Matt Logelin

last weekend tom and candee came to los angeles for a short visit. and i watched (in amazement) as they continued their support for the life i’ve made for maddy and me since the death of their daughter…they’re heavily involved with the foundation i started in liz’s name. they excitedly ask about everything that’s happening with my book. and they…

“You Should Be Happy” …..

Posted on: December 22, 2010 | Posted by: Janine Eggers

…. is what someone told me last night. Actually, the entire sentence was …. “All of your children are home.  You should be happy.” I felt like I had been slapped in the face. I was on the phone, explaining to this person, through tears, that I was feeling sad. And that sentence was the response I got. Most people would probably agree with that…

things.

Posted on: November 25, 2010 | Posted by: Matt Logelin

one by one, with each trip to minnesota, they started to appear. new to me. new to maddy, but obviously only new to the two of us. first it was the bucket of crayons. then the silk pillow and matching silk blanket. then the baton with the water and green glitter inside. this trip? a plastic doll house and all the accessories that belonged inside. no…

Bitter Sweet ….

Posted on: November 24, 2010 | Posted by: Janine Eggers

…. is the word I use to describe the upcoming Holidays now. Not as sucky as they’ve been (I hope), nor as sweet as they used to be. Jim died exactly one week before Christmas. Three weeks before his birthday. My “death march” begins right before Thanksgiving, as I remember where we were that year, what we were doing, how unsuspecting we all were.

A Dead Husband vs. ….

Posted on: November 10, 2010 | Posted by: Janine Eggers

…. a nice bank account. That’s the issue today.  I originally published the majority of this post (with a different title) on my personal blog on October 27th.  But it seemed to hit home with so many widowed people that I thought I’d write it again (and add to it) here. “You treat yourself nice.” …….. someone said to me yesterday, while…

I Am Afraid ….

Posted on: October 27, 2010 | Posted by: Janine Eggers

…. because I am starting to realize that not everyone on this path …. “gets it”.  Yes, that’s a broad term, but I’ve used it and seen it used hundreds of times amongst widowed people.  Since Jim died I have discovered that when widowed people are together (or writing to one another) many words don’t have to spoken.  Most emotions and…

The Things I/We Didn’t Need to Hear ….

Posted on: September 22, 2010 | Posted by: Janine Eggers

(this was originally posted on Feb. 16, 2008, almost 2 months after Jim’s death.  It was in response to many of my blog readers asking me what to “not say” to a grieving person”.  This is the 2nd time I have posted it on WV, but I think we need to remind people ….. every once in a while). OK, buckle your seat belts. And please, please, please…

Create your own rules

Posted on: August 14, 2010 | Posted by: Taryn Davis

Being a widow is no easy thing. From picking up the pieces , staring at them like they’re some foreign thing, and trying to create something semi-comprehensible….to the “outliers” (those are the people outside my situation), that try and put their two cents in…or in most cases…89 cents in, to what my life should be. There’s a lot going on.

Feeling Guilty ….

Posted on: July 7, 2010 | Posted by: Janine Eggers

… for falling in love again? Ummmm …… not so much.   I’ve heard and read a lot about this topic lately. I’ve seen what others have written about it. And I’ve seen quite a bit of guilt.   Why? Why do we do that to ourselves?I use the word “we”, even though guilt is not an emotion that I am, or have, felt since I started dating again (after…

Hanging with the Guys

Posted on: June 15, 2010 | Posted by: Michelle Dippel

Grayson is about to experience his 5th father’s day without his dad. The first few years were okay for him, but it is sort of difficult to get into a holiday like that one without your dad. We made cards, visited the cemetery, ate foods Daniel would have liked, did things he would have liked to do. We tried to celebrate it like we would have in the…

Stamps, Please

Posted on: April 24, 2010 | Posted by: Taryn Davis

While at the post office I needed to buy a bulk amount of stamps for the AWP. I ask the lady if she can show me what designs they have available. She asked me if it was for a wedding or shower, “No,” I replied. She pulls out a Frank Sinatra set, another she had nearby, as well as the Purple Heart stamps.  “Do you have anything else patriotic,…

Owning My Path

Posted on: March 29, 2010 | Posted by: Michele Neff Hernandez

“As a widow you will learn that the only choice that ultimately brings peace is walking the path of grief that has your name on it. The only way to walk with grief is to meet it head on and know that those who have walked before you have survived.” ~Linda Perrone RooneyI found this quote over the weekend, and instantly wanted to share it with all…
