The Story of Us

Posted on: November 20, 2024 | Posted by: Kathie Neff

Through 179 blog posts.

Life is best.

The image says life is the best story,

to which I say,

Yes. I believe that is true

because death

is a part of life.

Dying inside

happens

repeatedly

after realizing

our person is never coming back.

Living again

is

something we learn to do,

small step by

small

step,

as we make our way thru grief.

“How long does it take?” one asked.

“As long as it takes.” they answered.

Weekly writing of this blog provides strong medicine for me.

Twenty-one more posts to the 200 mark. Counting by weeks, that falls right around the date of my beloved’s 4-year death-a-versary.

Surreal.

Four years, 200 blog posts, and 1,314 days since you left.

“How long does it take?” I asked.

“As long as it takes.” they answered.

EACH ONE

The sun rose and set

while

we

gathered in

our

family home and

held on

one

to

another

as your

journey away from

us

began in

earnest.

You

and

We

taking each step without

knowing

what, when, or how.

Like walking

in the dark,

not

seeing clearly

the path

ahead.

We held

you

and each other.

We hold

you

and each other

still.

“How long does it take?” we ask.

“As long as it takes.” they answer.

Keep going.

Long, long, very long, highway with no one on it.

About Kathie Neff

Kathie Neff was widowed on April 15, 2021. She and her beloved husband, Dan, were high school sweethearts and enjoyed dancing and riding horses together. They lived in gratitude, hope and forgiveness for 50 years and nine months when Dan passed quietly late at night, surrounded by their seven children who, with Kathie, were caring for him in their family home.

Dan and Kathie have been a part of Camp Widow and Soaring Spirits International since its inception, as members of Michele Neff Hernandez’s cadre of helpers from the Neff family.

Kathie believes strongly in the strength and bond that is the gift of community and brings a heart of love for all who have been affected by death and dying.

Long live love. XO
