Strategies for life

Posted on: May 11, 2022 | Posted by: Kathie Neff

and hope . . .

Looking out my window before dawn I witness evidence of surviving grief.

Abstract but authentic proof of something deep inside that insists upon living fully alive.

Twinkle lights.

Twinkle lights bordering the walls of a secret garden.

In the Year of our Lord, two thousand twenty one

I lost my beloved husband of fifty-one years.

In the Year of our Lord, two thousand twenty-two

I welcomed my seventieth year on planet earth.

In April, two thousand twenty two

I created a secret garden to inspire hope and life within.

How does one know of a need for a secret garden?

How does one know how to survive grief, loss, sadness, and the inability we humans have to make the world as we wish it to be?

I don’t know.

But I know one thing . . .

beauty helps.

This morning I awoke to twinkle lights outside my window and a warm companion in my bed.

Today, this is enough.

Feeling grateful.

About Kathie Neff

Kathie Neff was widowed on April 15, 2021. She and her beloved husband, Dan, were high school sweethearts and enjoyed dancing and riding horses together. They lived in gratitude, hope and forgiveness for 50 years and nine months when Dan passed quietly late at night, surrounded by their seven children who, with Kathie, were caring for him in their family home.

Dan and Kathie have been a part of Camp Widow and Soaring Spirits International since its inception, as members of Michele Neff Hernandez’s cadre of helpers from the Neff family.

Kathie believes strongly in the strength and bond that is the gift of community and brings a heart of love for all who have been affected by death and dying.

Long live love. XO
