Where is joy?
I’m grateful to be alive this day
to breathe in air
to witness beauty
and to walk barefooted upon the earth.
Grief’s feeling cycles
remind me
that I am alive.
The values which form
the backbone of my existence
remind me
to pay attention.
Where does joy
reside?
Where is beauty?
The beloved wids
who have come before us
remind me
to watch for beauty;
to watch for joy.
They witness
to the existence
of something
beautiful
sprouting amidst
deep loss.
In certain times
I can only say
“I believe you”
I peel my inner eye
squinting
hard.
Their promise
keeps me alert.
Let me find beauty this day.
Let me find joy.
