People leave behind an energy. People leave behind ideas. People leave behind accomplishments. People leave behind material things. And people leave behind emotions in others.
In the case where someone is highly creative, they also leave behind works of their creativity.
In all these ways, death is not final.
Throughout history, humans have expressed themselves through creativity and left many beautiful, inspiring and thought provoking things behind once they’ve moved on from their physical bodies.
Mario was a highly creative person. I’ve talked recently about his music, but there was also a lot of visual art that he did. One thing that he created that definitely lives on is his tarot deck.
He worked on that tarot deck for over a year, painstakingly creating all of the illustrations for all of the cards. I frequently use the deck myself, and it almost always feels like his spirit is able to come through in those cards. But I figured that was just my emotionally charged perspective on it.
But the other night I got an email from an old friend of Mario’s. In the email he told me about how much he appreciates that tarot deck. He told me that he uses the deck himself and it feels like he’s getting advice directly from Mario every time he does. He mentioned the guidance has helped him navigate his way through some difficult times in his life. I’m sure Mario would be smiling about that.
There are people all over the world who own that tarot deck as I’ve sold many copies now. And while each one of those individuals did not know Mario personally, perhaps he really is speaking to them through that deck?
In fact, that idea seems really on brand for Mario. It’s something he would’ve totally done in life. Freed from the boundaries of his mortal coil, I can totally see him getting a big kick out of giving people advice from the great beyond.
In life, all of Mario’s friends always turned to him for advice or just someone to talk to. Even strangers would approach him and start telling him their problems. He was like a magnet for that sort of thing. Mario always seemed to know the right things to say when approached like that.
Perhaps he’s still doing that even now?
