This one’s going to be short this week, but it will pack a punch.
Shout out to one of my clients, as it was through them that I first learned about Andrea Gibson and saw this YouTube video. Andrea was a poet and performance artist who explored gender identity, death and more through their verse. Reading some of their other writings, I could relate as I am someone who doesn’t fit neatly into a specific gender box. They sadly passed away last month from ovarian cancer.
In the video below, they recite the poem, “Love Letter From the Afterlife”, which begins with these words:
“Dying is the opposite of leaving. When I left my body, I did not go away. That portal of light was not a portal to elsewhere, but a portal to here. I am more here than I ever was before.” It’s beautifully written and I encourage you to watch the video for the full poem.
There is also a documentary (I believe streaming on AppleTV) about Andrea and their wife, Megan, called, “Come See Me in the Good Light”.
