Once again, I’ve been thinking bout the past. I know everyone always says, the past is the past, and I get that, but the past has also made me what I am today.
Everything I’ve ever done has led right to this moment in time.
Sometimes, it’s only through looking back, that you have realizations about yourself or have some “ah ha” moment that helps in the present.
The past is a part of all of us and includes everything, good or bad.
In essence, what has passed has made us who we are.
I find myself stepping into my past a little bit lately, but not in my usual way of either reminiscing or ruminating.
It’s more like a rekindling… like reconnecting with things I used to get a lot of joy out of and testing the waters to see if that joy still exists.
One of those things is music. Not just listening to it, but being an active participant in it.
For example, I still have my 2 turntables and mixer from my DJ days and picking that up again, I’ve realized how much I still enjoy spinning records.
Another example… I actually went to a local event with a live electronic music artist and DJs and had a great time.
I even danced… in public! That is not something I’ve done in like 20 years (I’ve been to concerts over the years but that’s mostly just standing around head bobbing).
I forgot all about the uplifting energy that can happen when you’ve got a good group of people all on the same vibe and wavelength at a club like that.
It’s what inspired me to become a DJ all those years ago. You’re the catalyst to everyone’s vibe on the dance floor. It’s a bit of a rush, but also just really fun.
So I’m rolling with it and letting the music flow back into my life.
I’m sure Mario’s out there somewhere smiling and wondering what took me so long haha.
Who knows, I may even pick up my guitar again.
