My Life Journey As Seen On a Kindle List

Posted on: May 17, 2026 | Posted by: Grace Villafuerte

I stopped reading on my Kindle when Lynn passed 11+ years ago, for no other reason than I stopped doing a lot of “normal” things – watching movies, hanging out with friends, etc. Reading was just another thing lost in the “new abnormal” when your life and routines suddenly changes. I picked my Kindle back up in June 2023 when I traveled to the Philippines with the family, and finally had time in years to indulge in fun reading. I remember seeing my Kindle history for the first time since Lynn passed, and being hit with anxiety and nostalgia. My Kindle history showed what I had been reading when she passed  – it was still on the page I was reading the night she passed away. My Kindle history also showed a snapshot of my life December 2014 and previous, like it was frozen in time. And in a sense it was, that was the last moment of the “before”, and the moment right before the “and after.” Wowza, it was like looking through a window of my previous self. I skimmed the history of my reading, which showed my and out interests, and I think of how naive and unknowing I was of what was to come. There were books that I knew Lynn would want to read, or that reflected her interests. Books about trips we wanted to take, biographies of people I was inspired by at that time in my life. It was a rather surreal feeling, looking at a part of my life that I loved, that I could ALMOST touch.

It was a long while – years – before I watched the following episodes of TV shows we watched. Several shows I have (so far) never watched again. It is so bittersweet to watch these shows alone. But, over time, I have owned these shows as ones I love, just myself. And, of course, I relate to them a bit differently now, as I am a different person. It is a slightly guilty feeling to enjoy shared experiences without your late partner. And, it’s also interesting to realize, actually, I do not like this experiences without them.
My Kindle and videos lists looks so different than it did 11+ years ago, lol. I used to make so much fun of Lynn for liking RomCom’s. Now, that is what dominates both my book and movie lists! lol. I am sure she is getting a kick out of that, and having the last laugh.
