Normal is a really relative term these days.
For me, normal is nothing overly exciting or unusual or entertaining happened. So this is basically just going to be me rambling about every day life and dealing with insomnia.
Monday
A local artist friend I know had told me about a local widow’s group that meets at a couple different restaurants on the 2nd and 4th Monday’s of the month. So after a couple work phone calls, I headed out to that. My friend wasn’t there though and while I was pretty sure who the widow group was, I ended up being too much of an introvert to go up and ask and introduce myself. So I bailed on that. I did email my friend (found out she’s recovering from knee surgery) and she said if she wouldn’t be at the next one, she’d tell people to look out for me if I decide to go again.
I had some other errands to run and then went to the gym, which was the big win of the day. After the sinus infection of February, the cold of March + going out of town, I really got derailed from my gym schedule of going 3x a week. That is something I really do seem to get a benefit from and enjoy. I even drive like 20 minutes to get to the gym, so you know I’m motivated.
When I got home I made dinner and then ended up working late into the night. Part of the problem is a recent struggle with insomnia where it gets to normal bed time (for me, around midnight) and I am just wide awake. I needed to do some catching up on work things, so that’s why I just ended up working.
Tuesday
Tuesday I had lunch at the Indian restaurant in town that has a buffet. Did not do much of anything else except for work and ended up going to bed crazy late, yet again.
Wednesday
Got a really late start on the day because of the crazy late night. I had things I wanted to do, that didn’t get done. It was one of those days where you just get through it the best you can. I did some light house chores and a couple work things, but the afternoon evaporated quickly. I had promised my 85 year old mom I’d help her put her hair up in rollers so went over to her house around 6pm and didn’t get back until 9:30pm. Had to make late dinner and then forced myself to get some “must do” work stuff done.
You would think after only 5 hours of sleep for multiple days in a row I would be too tired to be up until 4am but apparently not.
Thursday
Another late start because of a late night. I’m more determined to try and break this cycle though so cutting myself off the computer right after I finish this post.
Did not get much done today because I feel like I’m just stuck in the mud. Also, I don’t do well with interruptions throughout the day, especially when I’m working with a sleep deficit. Had to go back over to my mom’s today because I was supposed to be there when a new landscape maintenance guy was to be there to give my mom a quote on trimming around the property. Turned out he left me a voicemail when I was on my way over there that he had to reschedule. He suggested we just take pictures and send him those. So my mom and I got in the golf cart that had been stored in the garage and drove around the property taking pictures. When I got home, I sent the pictures off.
I’m pretty much all my mom has in the way of help so I often have to make time in my day for things like this.
Other than that, I managed to eat dinner at “normal people time” and then got a little bit of work handled.
The Rest of the Week
Friday is a work day, so going to try to finish up the rest of my work to-do list. Already plan to have lunch at In-N-Out Burger (I don’t even get a burger there … I get their grilled cheese! They are a west coast thing, but you seriously get a craving for the stuff). I plan to pick up some new flowers to plant in the yard over the weekend and then maybe do some weeding in the yard at my rental house (if it’s not raining – it’s Oregon spring, so we all have no idea what the weather is going to do on a daily basis, regardless of what the actual weather report says), maybe hit a thrift store or two and then treat myself to a movie (no idea which movie yet). I’ll have to go over to my mom’s for the usual Sunday visit to help her with chores and have lunch. Somewhere in there I have to fit in my own chores too.
So yeah, nothing exciting this week, but many weeks are like that.
